In response to the cultural solidarity, “normal leaves protected the torn ones”, Saigon Invest Group (SGI) has launched an immediate fundraising program to call for contributions from its management board and employees in order to quickly assist many difficulties of people who are suffering from painful losses due to the recent flood disaster in Quang Binh.

Over the past weekend (October 17-18), SGI’s Union was working with Unions from member companies: Saigon - Quy Nhon Mining Corporation (SQC), Saigon Telecommunications Technology JSC (SGT), Saigon - Da Nang Investment Corporation (SDN) and Thanh Nien Newspaper to deliver more than 70 thousand notebooks, and more than 400 backpacks with pens and water bottles to nearly 500 affected households in Ham Ninh commune, Quang Binh province.

With the assistance of social workers, volunteers and Thanh Nien newspaper, SGI’s aid groups have directly met people in the flooded area to offer necessary supports for households-in-need to overcome difficulties ahead.

Sharing with households in Ham Ninh, Mr. Ho Truong Thanh Hai, and SDN’s Deputy General Director could not hide his feeling: "By being here, we are truly touched by the reality people are facing. Our contribution is just a drop of water in the ocean, but we hope with our sincerity, people will find enough companionship to overcome this challenge.” This is the first aid by the SGI’s unions, besides books and basic school supplies; each household also received 200,000 VND in cash.

At the time this article was written, the water was continued to climb up. The current flood was still presented while other ones already waiting to come. The entire commune only has one motor boat, which meant hundreds of farmers would continue to be isolated.
